Something old, something new

Tripod design can be frustrating. H.G. Wells gave some pretty specific descriptions of the various parts, but there are many ways that a tripod can be put together and still claim to be accurate. Take the two designs below for instance...

  1. I have a book of Roger Dean' art, and he did some nice deigns of the tripods. I think it was for some TV production that never got finished or something.

  2. Thanks Phil! I've seen the Roger Dean art before... it was even used as a book cover for one of the editions. But generally that design contradicts the description of the tripods from the novel, even though I like the dangling tentacles from the cockpit. Again, walking the line between authenticity and coolness. As you know very well, that's the problem with trying to visualize any popular literature: Everyone has their own opinion based on what they imagined when they first read it.
